Why our lives are incomplete without sadness.
“You tell me that
The stars shine the brightest
On the darkest nights
But you see
I am not a star
I am not something beautiful
I am not something that catches your eye
I am just me
And I am nothing.”
I logged on to Facebook this morning to be met by a 9th grader’s status that went ‘Behind every smile, there’s sadness.’

That got me thinking real hard. This definitely wasn’t the first time I’d read words portraying such grief and sorrow, and something told me it certainly wasn’t going to be the last. A lot of people talk about how sadness, gloominess is something we could do without in our lives and all we need is joy and celebration so things could be so much more better, or would they?
Do we really believe that the world would be a better place if there was absolutely no sadness?
A world where words like melancholy are only just another adjective and nothing to do with the real poignancy faced by people?

Sadness is prevalent in our lives, and how! But as much sometimes being sad is unnecessary, unwanted, sometimes, just sometimes, its okay to be sad about something you didn’t think would happen. It’s okay to be hurt about the harsh words said to you by someone you care deeply. Its okay to be upset about how things haven’t turned out the way you wanted them be. It’s okay to not be in high spirits and its okay as far as we are aware that its all a passing phase. And after you are done being sad and low, realize that you have no option but to live this beautiful life ahead of you, with more vigor and happiness than before, and sadness helps us realize this. Sadness helps us believe that sometimes in life, things are not going to go the way you thought they would, things will not happen like you expected them to, people not act or say the things you wanted them to, and it’s all going to upset you, but what’s more important is that you rise through all of that. It is only when you can stand up after facing all those struggles, obstacles and still believe that you were born for greater things and have so much left to achieve, can you be fully content and going through that phase of sadness helps you get there, step by step.
