UNEMPLOYMENT: Cause for alarm

Nov 9, 2014

It is unquestionable that rising unemployment is one of the most pressing issues, biggest problems and the worst misfortune that the world is facing today.
Millions of educated people who either have no job or are forced to take up some work which is not commensurate with their capabilities. India is said to be progressing by leaps and bounds in the matter of economy but this progress is sidelined by the fact that more than half of the youth in the nation is unemployed. India cannot claim to be a welfare state so long as this problem remains unsolved. The population is increasing by leaps and bounds. But jobs and gainful avenues cannot be created in the same proportion. So, naturally, a large section of the people is left unemployed. The problem of unemployment is mainly an economic one. It is essential, therefore, that the economic policy of the country be overhauled. In our country, labor is available in abundance. We should provide avenues for employment for them through cottage and small-scale industries. The government should hold workshops to make young educated people aware of the whole notion of small business. Besides this, stress must be laid on family planning. Every effort must be made to check the rapid rise in population. This will help a great deal in the solution of this problem. Unemployment is caused by the same things it has always been caused by. Poor economic conditions and an increasing population have and always will continue to perpetuate the problem of unemployment.

We must conclude by stating that at unemployment issue must be tackled with utmost care and seriousness as it has already assumed alarming proportion in the social and economic scenarios of our nation. What is needed is further investment, new innovation, new institutions, new projects etc. where millions of people can get employment.
