Mistakes teenagers make.

Oct 27, 2014

This isn’t to say elder people do not make mistakes but that when you become a teenager, there is a different sense of freedom and the knowing that you are now into what might or might not be the most exciting phase of your life and you have to make the most of it, by whatever ways possible.

1. Smoking.

Smoking is life threatening and being aware of it, most teenagers refuse to follow it due to their stubbornness and ignorance. Though they start smoking at an early age due to various reasons, most don’t know neither how to control nor stop after a certain time and it affects them to a huge extent and destroys their health.

2. Skip/Drop out of College.

However important practical knowledge might be, what is also important is the knowledge that is passed on to us by people way more experienced and learned than us who help us in not committing the mistakes we are most likely to. It is from education that we can make a start to achieve our dreams and by dropping out of it or refusing to acknowledge will only end up being your loss.

3. Elope/Marry.

You have it all going good for you, and then you meet someone and decide all by yourself that he’s the one and risking everything, leaving your career, your family, friends is just another independent adult like decision for you? Sure, there’s freedom of speech but there’s also all your life to look forward to and all your life that you’re leaving behind with no remorse.

4. Having children.

Falling for peer pressure or the impatience of experiencing sex leads to teenagers take this step all by themselves and at most times, without using protection and the female ends up pregnant. At an age when they don’t fully understand themselves and just are beginning to discover themselves they carry a human being inside of them and already have someone else to take care of. Too much too soon?

5. Not take care of their health.

Teenagers are used to living an everyday life full of pressure, excitement, anxiety and moments of fun that somewhere they forget to take care of the what is the primarily most important thing in their life: Their health. Eating, sleeping habits change without realizing and eve if unknowingly, they abuse their bodies which might lead them to suffer as they grow older.

6. Not listen to their parents.

Teenagers often realize this at a latter stage in life that whatever their parents repeatedly told them, advised them for and they refrained from listening to was probably the right thing to do for their own good and if they could have it all back, they would probably put their ego aside, not be as adamant and abide by them.

7. Impulsive.

Most teenagers make this mistake and often regret it later. To choose, decide on something without giving it another thought and say/do something that could affect your life without fully grasping the consequences can pose to be a problem later. Hence the huge mistake of being impulsive should be avoided by teens and every decision should be taken smartly.

8. Spending too much time on their phone/computer.

Movies, songs, sitcoms, socializing is a good thing but what could be better is to talk to people in real life, shoot a movie, possibly act in one, take singing lessons, sing a song, and sometimes just look at the ocean, palm trees and the sunset and awe at how beautiful life is. It is only when you get older is when you realize everything that passed by while you were staring at your screen.
