“Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun; not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul.” ― Dave Pelzer

Every year numerous children are caught in the sinful web of domestic violence. It includes physical, mental and sexual abuse on them by their family members. These leaves a long term physical and psychological damage on their minds and hampers their progress. They find it difficult to socialize and grasp new things because their mental state is impaired! They find it difficult to trust people and make friends.

Children who grow up in violent home often have post traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and nightmares. They may have trouble with school work and show poor focus and concentration. They won’t get the complete value of education. They are more vulnerable to do drugs and alcohol.

Sexual violence is prevalent in school and colleges as well which is mostly directed towards girls. These girls decide to hide themselves in shame from the eyes of their predators. Even child domestic workers are subjected to abuse by their employer. It includes physical punishment, humiliation and sexual harassment. Girls are targeted more in this case.

These effects of domestic violence stay forever. Children lose faith in themselves and others. Boys who face domestic violence at home tend to become more violent when they grow up. They treat their family the same way as they were treated while growing up!

Breaking the silence that surrounds domestic violence is the only solution. No amount and type of violence against children is justified. It should be stopped forever.
