Why are more teens becoming atheist?
From being an immensely religious nation who worshipped our Gods without question to becoming a nation where freedom of speech has come into light to which more people are now resorting to, teens are a part of such an age where researching on one thing or another leads to us developing our beliefs in the ones we prefer most. Perhaps, today we are much more open to the fact that there exists more than one option and we are not only interested in being aware of them but also welcome new possibilities.
There is also a mindset amongst the teens that they are old enough to decide for themselves and hence form their own opinions.
Mere teenage rebellion against parental authority doesn’t make a strong foundation for a serious faith in something and this however, is something that most teens miss out on.
For some, deciding to become atheist has more to do with them deciding that on their own rather then their parents forcing them to go on a path that they have been all their life. Its just a rebellious lifestyle that they choose to live.
Because some 50 odd years ago, a teen’s media was their parents and their religious institution. Now kids and teens are exposed to the internet and media, and can see everyone’s opinions and form their own opinions on issues pertaining to the world.
On the other hand, its not that teens aren’t getting smarter, they most definitely are. Here we have the society to thank, as it too is in general becoming more acceptant. It’s a little easier to be an atheist now, than it was before. The reason being it might have more to do with the generation they were brought up. A large number of religious parents have now become increasingly alarmed about the fact that not only does their child not accompany them to their religious institution anymore, they just do not believe in the existence of God.
Indeed, as teens move into adulthood, a study shows they become more likely to abandon belief.
This all seems very alarming, as if atheism was some contagion preying on children and rapidly spreading throughout the nation.
The good news, however, is that it is not as bad as a contagion that we might think it is. It is is said that atheism most often comes after a set of life experiences and only gets a set of intellectual theories built around it after the fact. It is only after an individual has been subject to a lot of unfair situations and unhappiness in life does he choose to take a stand and be the master of belief in the almighty.
Others leave religious institutions out of a desire to live life without restraint.
They think they’re presented with a choice: It’s either God or more of the everyday lonely life.
Whatever might be the ultimate choice, people are entitled to their own right to believe. But it would be better if one did so, after knowing all there is to know, and with true, genuine belied and life will still be as interesting and beautiful las it was, with a little bit of God’s grace.
