Sexuality of anyone “how is it society’s concern?”

Oct 28, 2014

As children, coming out of the closet would have sounded like such a childish thing to say which had no specific context. It was only after I grew up, that I realized it was when a person revealed his sexuality it to the world, only to be further judged, he was said to have come out of the closet. It is probably much easier coming out of the closet now than it was in the early days, but still not as simple as it is made out to be. But why is that as times have gone by, it has become increasingly difficult for everyone to reveal their sexuality as everyone in society is sure to judge them on the basis of this irrelevant criteria?
Why is that people feel the need to form an opinion about somebody’s life and choices? All of us go on about freedom of speech and expression when it suits us, but when the time comes to support someone in the choices they take and the life they decide to lead, we conveniently back out. If we keep judging everyone on the basis of their sexuality, how can we progress towards being the democracy that we believe aim to?
We have now immensely evolved form where we were centuries ago and with everything that has changed for the better, only because we have been accustomed to watching two people of the opposite sex be together, doesn’t mean we must remain the very same. What we need to understand is that sexuality of the person does not define him or his capabilities.
What we have forever stressed upon is to be happy in life, and if a person’s happiness lies in another person of the same sex, so be it. Let not society be the judge of who you makes you.
