When is the Anglo Indian day celebrated?
Different people who have migrated from India to different parts of the world have formed Anglo Indian Association. World Anglo Indian Day is celebrated all over on 2nd August every year.
Tell us something about your culture?
Anglo Indians are well educated people. They give immense importance to education. Europeans like Portuguese, French and Spanish came to India during the British rule and mixed their culture here. Portuguese make wines and are very good cook. French have set up colonies in south of India and Andaman. They colonized in down Chennai and Pondicherry. So basically Anglo Indian culture is the blend of two cultures.
What is your famous cuisine?
We love eating meat. We make coconut rice, meatball curry and pepper water. We are pancake lovers as well.
How do you arrange the social get together?
We do it randomly by meeting friends and we intend to bring more and more people together. The information regarding this gathering is spread through Facebook, Twitter and news articles. We meet every year in a particular location which is decided in advance with everyone’s consent for the annual general meeting. This year the meeting will be held at Bangalore.
May we know the reason of decline of your community?
Male in the families carry the surname. Women lose the surname when they marry outside the community. But nowadays even though many Anglo Indian women who have married to men from other communities, they are still respected and are considered amongst our community. There is no hatred towards them and they are also invited to attend these get together.
Which other events are celebrated apart from World Anglo Indian day?
Apart from World Anglo Indian day, Easter dance, Christmas dance and picnics are also held throughout the year to keep the spirit alive.
We thank Mr Ralph Craven and Blossom Lily White for giving us this immense opportunity to interact with them. Team Socioethika wishes you good luck for all the future endeavors.
