10 Laws in India that need to be changed
1. Adultery.
Though it makes sense if this is a punishable offense for anyone committing it what is extremely sad to hear is that while action will be taken against a man, a woman will not undergo any such punishment which is a new low for our supposedly equality status that we are so hell bent upon.
2. Reservation.
This is one law that every Indian can unfortunately relate with and do absolutely nothing about. This law shouts unfair from the highest of the rooftops. Reservations that are partial to people on the basis of religion, caste and gender take away an individual’s right to be judged upon on his capabilities and denies him a place in an institution where he might be more deserving than someone else.
3. Legal drinking age.
So a person can vote for the government of his choice at 18 and get married in a few years but still not consume alcohol? As pointless as this law is, its undeniably stupid to assume that most of us even follow it. In a day and age where we speak of modernization and globalization, use and consume foreign products, doesn’t this sound way too orthodoxed and ridiculous?
4. Labor laws.
Probably the saddest thing about our judiciary would be the many laws responsible for regulating employment that contradict each other and neither are an initiative for the development of the employment sector of our country. The very basic factor of employing a person comes with pointless regulations that make it further difficult for people to make a living.
5. Internet censorship.
By blocking what they deem as obsolete and offensive, the judiciary is only making a fool of themselves. In an age where technology has rushed way ahead and more and more teens are excelling at it, it wont be much difficult for anyone to gain access to any obscene content. Therefore there must be clarity in the judicial process and everyone should be made aware of what they might find out by other ways and given a choice to watch whatever he/she wishes to.
6. Companies Act.
Even after so many years of independence, this law fails to efficiently reach out to the many modern businesses that it needs to. Since the establishment of all companies depend upon this it is necessary for it to be effective which it isn’t.
7. Blasphemy law.
The law speaks about how anyone who outrages a particular religion and has an intention of maligning it, will be severely punished. This law was introduced way back during the British rule and today, living in an independent country, saying that one does not have a right to voice their own opinion is unfair in every sense.
8. Domestic Violence act.
Though a great and much needed initiative, this law has too many loopholes that take the away the very purpose of it. Not only does it not involve any strict action against the prevailing cruelty but also does not really guarantee the complete protection as a measure against domestic violence.
9. Suicide.
This ridiculous act goes on to state that if you go on to survive a suicide, you could be actually punished whereas its not an issue if you’re successful in your first. What makes this law pointless and absolutely shameful is the rising rate of suicides in our country by people of all age groups and rather than finding a cure for this unfortunate situation, this is more of an encouragement to do away with your life.
10. Discrimination against LGBT’s.
This law refers to homosexual intercourse as illegal which goes against the very concept of being a democratic nation and therefore, snatching away a person’s right to be able to choose his partner irrespective of gender, among many other factors is definitely not helping us be on the path of social reform.
